Independent Voters

Say what you will about the poor performance of our newly elected Democratic congress, the people of the United States are not dumb! Well, at least not 70% of us.

This next election will be the most important in the history of the United States of America. Even if it is a GOP-lite candidate nominated we must have a Democrat to continue change. A Republi-con will only ensure our national demise quicker. I personally feel that our once great Nation is at a crossroads, it's now or never. In order for a new dominant Progressive Party to take hold, the seeds of change must start now. There are naysayers out there, a few on the far left have given up hope. I'm far to the left but not that far, and I refuse give up. We can make change possible, it's going to be tough, it will take years of election cycles but we must not give up. To all my Independent voter friends, Please Vote Democratic, our existence as a Nation depends on it.

From coast to coast, independent voters tilt tellingly toward Democrats in their opposition to the Iraq war, their displeasure with Bush and their feeling that the country is moving in the wrong direction, according to data from recent Associated Press-Ipsos polls.

That could be decisive in next year's contests for the White House and Congress, starting with the crucial early presidential primaries in New Hampshire.

The portion of that state's registered voters not enrolled in a political party has grown to 44 percent. While people can vote in either major party's primary, more are expected to choose the Democratic contest. That potentially would boost antiestablishment candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., while leaving the GOP race more in the hands of the party's traditional conservative voters.

National exit polls show that after leaning toward Republicans by 48 percent to 45 percent as recently as the 2002 elections, independents began shifting toward Democrats.

"This is a serious problem" for Republicans, says GOP pollster Neil Newhouse. "We didn't get where we are among independents overnight. The data does suggest that it's going to take us some time to earn those votes back."

I haven't given up hope either. The far-left who have, will guarantee that their ideals are ground into the dirt if they quixotically reject Democrats because they don't pass some test of ideological purity. The best way to assure the emergence of a Progressive Party is to strengthen the current Democrats and marginalize the Publicans further, hastening their demise. When they are relegated to the swamps with the snakes and fungi and various other of their intellectual equals, a Progressive party can emerge to the left of the Democratic party - which hasn't been "left" for decades.

It's my personal belief that more of our voting rights will be taken away from us by a republi-con pResident. Continued voter caging, disenfranchisement of minorities and the poor, this is who the republi-cons prey on.

But wait a minute, they don't want the American public to vote period.
Here is what the famous neo-con, Paul Weyrich, says about voting:

"I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of the people. They never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

Yes, the GOP-lite are bad, I dislike the GOP-lite corporatist Dems just as much as anybody but look at the choices. These repuke pigs running for Prez are like buzzrds circling for the remaining pieces of this once great nation.

A Democrat is somewhat concerned about the commons and will allow the open process of a third (Progressive) party to have a chance. The Dems will not touch Social Security, they will leave the Unions alone, they propose insurance for the masses, and hopefully they will protect jobs and pensions.
We need to take a small victory in "08" and finally cut the neo-cons loose.

Everyone who does not vote or votes republi-con will be responsible for another bu$h like character as pResident.

That's why this is the most important election ever.

As far as strategy, time is what it's all about. It will take time and many election cycles to get rid of the neo-cons. Just as it will take time to pick off the aging 'Dinos' who continue to vote against their constituent's wishes. And time to make this great new third "Progressive Party" appear.
