Hi there. Hope you're having a pleasant day.
For the past 5 and 1/2 years "those who care" have been incessantly looking forward to the next major election (first in 2002, then in 2004 and now November, 2006). Why? Because that was/will be our opportunity to finally regain some control of the federal government. This year, the mantra is "take back the House".
We have had the 2000 and 2004 elections literally stolen from under our noses (Florida and Ohio, respectively). We've seen the Supreme Court overtaken by radically conservative ideologues and now the Court has gleefully started chipping away at our constitutional rights. We watch as the Congress passes bill after bill to enhance corporate power and wealth while stripping bare the social programs that support tens of millions of working class and poverty-stricken citizens, along with bills that toss away hard-fought gains for environmental protection.
We see political corruption, once the arena of backroom cronyism and power-trading that only occasionally made sensational headlines, become almost routine daily trivia. Corruption has infiltrated and is now entrenched in ALL levels of government, permanently ingrained into the fabric of federal, state and local agencies and programs.
We have the vote-counting systems of our elections stealthily controlled by the dominating political party, making a mockery of the entire democratic process.
We watch as our taxes increasingly are funneled through our Treasury, then our Defense Department, finally ending up in the coffers and pockets of military contractors - hundreds of billions of dollars each year that could otherwise significantly raise the quality of life of hundreds of millions of people in the U.S. and around the world.
Astoundingly, we citizens passively watch our government invade developing and third-world nations strickly for political and financial gain, ignoring the resulting horrendous slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people who are exactly like you and me and our children, diffrent only in the languages they use and the churches they attend.
And most importantly, the party in power has successfully and permanently strong-armed all major media into repeating the political rhetoric of the party rather than reporting the news. There are a few exceptions, but they are mostly humorous novelty purposely allowed by the party in power in order to have targets for their defamatory attacks (target practice to keep their skills honed).
Take back the House in '06? Take back the Senate? Take back the Presidency in '08? As the title says, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING. Mark my words here and now, the party in power will not allow the House to slip through their fingers. No way. Nada. Aint gonna happen.
There is only one solution left: revolution. Too radical, you say? See how you feel on November 8, 2006.
