No Smog Check? Check.

Yet ANOTHER reason to buy a hybrid car:

State Exempts Three Brands of Hybrid Vehicles from Smog Checks
SACRAMENTO (AP) 6.30.04, 11:30a -- Three brands of hybrid-electric vehicles no longer require smog checks every two years or when ownership changes, the state's Department of Consumer Affairs announced Wednesday. Affected cars include all model years of the Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid and Toyota Prius. Hybrid-electric cars use both an electric motor and internal combustion engine. "This exemption eliminates the inconvenience of reporting to a referee for all owners of relatively new, environmentally friendly vehicles," said department director Charlene Zettel. "We encourage the use of vehicles with lower emissions and better fuel economy." The department said more hybrid-electric vehicles will be added to the list as they receive information from manufacturers.
