The End May Be Near

If the Democrats do not win the 2004 election, the end of life as we know it will be close at hand. In just the past two years you've seen the rampant destruction of our lives and planet brought on by the Christian Right. It is becoming impossible to remember how secure life felt on the last day of Clinton's Administration. Each year the Christian Right remains in office throws us out one decade of progressive advancements. We are now reliving the 1970's with respect to freedom of the press, social programs, quality of health and education, and world order. Before Bush finishes his first stolen term we will be in the early 1960's.

We have nearly irreparably damaged federally funded social programs (Social Security, Medicare, education), environmental programs, States assistance, and a myriad of other government-supported programs by cutting taxes to the wealthiest, massively increasing military spending, and locking us into the costly repair of two (so far) countries (Iraq and Afghanistan. The economy is spiralling out of control. Homelessness and joblessness are dramatically increasing. Our children's education is getting worse yearly as we replace learning with testing. The cost of health care is increasing at a double-digit rate. Our environment (air, ozone, global warming, water) is suddenly and dramatically worsening. World chaos is rapidly escalating.

Our elected representatives no longer listen to us - they only respond to the wallets of business. The media has stopped being independent and instead is a sounding board of the government. Top elected government officials are no longer procesuted for stealing from, lying to and deceiving the public which it is paid to serve. The public no longer holds its elected officials accountable for their actions. And finally, the process by which officials are elected, the voting system, is being replaced by a new electronic system that is controlled by the political power in control, the Christian Right.

The damage cannot be repaired with another Clinton. This already requires a much larger fix. If it continues much past 2004, the fix will become unreachable in our (and our children's) lifetimes. The 2004 election is truly our last chance to save ourselves.
